Chicken Feed

So, I was feeding my chickens and Laura brought up the subject of soaking chicken feed to make it so there was more feed for every pound that you bought. Now, at first this may make sense. Because the grains soak up the water and expand and you have more chicken feed. But then I started thinking, there are no calories in water. So, how would adding volume help if it had the same energy value? Well, how do we know that it has the same number of calories. Maybe it has more. Because if it was fermented that means that some mold or fungus or something is growing on it. Maybe the mold or whatever it is has lots of calories in it. Ether way Laura said that her chickens eat at least half as much. So, I am going to do it with my chicken feed for my chickens. Maybe it just fills them up faster and it has nothing to do with calories. Anyway, this has been a long post, so lets end this by saying that Amy is doing well in the Philippians and that Papa LOVES his new bike. See Ya.

Edit: Here is a continuation of this post. Kind of. Just click here and go check it out.

Another edit to this post: I shared this post on The Homesteader Hop. Thanks Floyds!

My First Time Making Money on Animals

Yup, that's the goal of any farm. To make money. And this year I raised 15 layers from chick to chicken for my X boss at Southern States. Now, it took some effort (on my sisters part too. I'm not going to lie.) But it wasn't that bad. So now I am going to keep these 10 other chickens I raised with his and try to sell eggs to family and friends. Maybe I can pay off how much the feed will cost and make some money at it. Anyway pray I'll get better soon because the doctor said I have... something. I don't know what it was but she made it sound bad and I believe her.

Sick

Yup.

That's me!

Sick.

And nothing but sick.

Anyway that gave me time to look up pictures of Snoopy dancing while playing the guitar. So here you go. (Especially funny if you play music while watching this.)
You just can't stop watching them, can you?

Surprise!

So, I have a riddle for you.

Why would 11 people be running around, barefoot, on the gravel, at 11 O'clock at night?

Well,...         Maybe their dad (AKA Papa) just rolled in on a 2014 Harley Davidson Electra glide!

And that's exactly what our dad did last night after he took Amy to the airport. So, my guess would be that today is going to be spent checking out all the cool features on this bike. And now I will leave you with a random fact.

Gestation period for a slug is 4 weeks at the most. Number of offspring 150-200. Breeding seasons are fall and summer.

Amy

Well, Amy is my sister and she is going to the Philippines to learn to be a midwife. She will be gone for 2.5 years and we will all miss her. But how ever much we enjoy being around her we just have to remember to be happy. It's not a sad thing that she is learning to help people. Sure, it may not be the easiest, or the funnest, for us, or even for her. But those are small things compared to how many people she will help. Here is something she said on her blog.

"My main goal in life is to love God and the people he made. For this reason, among others, I am working towards becoming a missionary midwife. I will be attending Newlife International School of midwifery starting June 2015. You can learn more about it in this and this post."

Just Read my last post.

The sad news is not that I am a boy. It is because the rabbits died. I am glad to be a boy.

Sad News

Well, our one doe picked up each of her kits and spread them out all over the pen and they got too cold and died. This video does not have the kits that died in it but it was our rabbits so I put it in. Oh, and that is NOT me. That is my sister. I am a boy. It always annoys me when I don't know if the person I am emailing or reading their blog is a boy or a girl. So I decided to just tell you strait out I AM A BOY.

SYS

In Pooh Bear, Tigger always says "TTFN (Ta ta for now)" so I think I'll come up with something like that for my blog. How about SYS (see you soon). It's symmetrical and catchy. OK, not quite symmetrical. But close.

Blue

So, the cow you saw in the last post is my new heifer.  Most of you probably know what a heifer is. But i am having trouble thinking of things to write, so I'll tell you what a heifer is, according to wikipedia.
A young cow before she has had her first calf
This specific heifer we named Blue. Some of you may think that's a strange name but that's all we could think of. Oh, and we found out later that, being a Hereford and all, She's both red, white and Blue!

Can you guess which one is real?

New Animals!

One of our does had 7 kits (AKA baby rabbits). They are all white. Well, I guess pink. But they will be white when they get older! So that brings our total to 3 Does - 3 Bucks - and 15 Kits. Oh, and for those of you who don't have rabbits : The male is called a buck and the female is a doe; a young rabbit is a kitten or kit. But now, before you get tired of listening to me, The pictures. Sorry for the bad quality. It was from a phone.

Trust me, they will get cute.
Even though they look like miniature hotdogs right now.
NOT RABBIT!
(Nothing gets past me, does it ; ) Well, it looks like I'm being called upon to help put up our pool for the summer. So, see you next time.
